Although I thought the way this post was done was tasteless I have to agree with Mike on many of his points regarding the IMS and the way it is handled on the web. Much of the redundancy I fault to the lack of moderator control as many of the posts are from the same newbies asking the same questions and the posts could be combined with a short note to the poster.
It is also a lack of effort put in by the newbie who typically doesn't bother to do a search and I say this with all humility as I'm as guilty of that as anyone especially when I started visiting Porsche web sites.
I'm going to play devil's advocate for a moment and ask the question what if the number of IMS failures isn't all that great for Porsche to have put forth an effort other than to replace motors under warranty? after all no one really knows the true number of failures except Porsche. Without their data anything else is speculation. I personally know at least two dozen Boxster owners (probably more) of all model years and only one had an IMS failure at 130K miles.
I think this is a topic much like the Kennedy assassinations, those who really know aren't talking and the conspiracy theorists have center stage.
