Unless you race and have had problems with tweaking, I'd think the Brad Meyer(sp?) kit would be more of the safeguard you're looking for. Brad's kit reinforces the longitudinals which tend to rot out WAY before the rear section.
If the car doesn't have an absolutly clean past they look close for any rust in the suspension console. Then look again to see if a "creative" PO used fiberglass or Bondo to repair the structural rust.
