I think I mentioned that I had taken one of the motor controllers off the FSAE car since it was malfunctioning and we sent it back to China (yeah, I know they are crap but they are like half the price of the next step up and we don't have the money...) for repair. I got the controller back today and we shall see later this summer how the car runs. I want to wait for the EE to check everything over...

Anyway, the controller looks something like a power supply or a transistor amp in that it is in an Aluminum box with cooling fins on the top. It is bolted to a plate and between the bottom of the controller and the plate I found a white paste that I guessed was Lithium grease. I could not find any tubes of the stuff around the cage today in order to refresh the stuff that was left on the plate from when I took the controller off...

So, I did what any good member of the Stijn thread would do and pulled out my nipeloob nipple lubrication paste and used that instead. My motto is always be prepared!
Hi Max,

That white paste is most probably a thermally conductive paste otherwise known as heatsink compound.
Thermal grease - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lithium grease is probably not a good substitute
