Not very chatty today. Are you?
I think I mentioned that I had taken one of the motor controllers off the FSAE car since it was malfunctioning and we sent it back to China (yeah, I know they are crap but they are like half the price of the next step up and we don't have the money...) for repair. I got the controller back today and we shall see later this summer how the car runs. I want to wait for the EE to check everything over... Anyway, the controller looks something like a power supply or a transistor amp in that it is in an Aluminum box with cooling fins on the top. It is bolted to a plate and between the bottom of the controller and the plate I found a white paste that I guessed was Lithium grease. I could not find any tubes of the stuff around the cage today in order to refresh the stuff that was left on the plate from when I took the controller off... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . So, I did what any good member of the Stijn thread would do and pulled out my nipeloob (nipple lubrication paste) and used that instead. My motto is always be prepared! ![]()

That white paste is most probably a thermally conductive paste otherwise known as heatsink compound. Thermal grease - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Lithium grease is probably not a good substitute ![]() Cheers,

So I got Live at Pompeii but it is on two video CDs. I can't get songs off of it.
![]() Anyone willing to send me a few compressed audio files? The main one that I want from Live at Pompeii is Saucerfull of Secrets since it has some "singing" at the end while the iTunes version does not. Otherwise, Echoes, Carefull with that Axe, and One of these Days (I think) could come from the studio albums they were released on. If you can help me out, please pm me. I'll send you my email address. This video CD does have more stuff than in the YouTube version. It has some Dark Side of the Moon stuff, which is nice. So it is not a total loss.

I will see if the EE knows where we might have more. I think we will be fine with what we have on there (the residue leftover after removal) but I should be able to get the controller up just enough to spread some more under there without too much work.

Says "Full Length Version". It's has a rather gaudy fushia, blue, and teal color scheme with white text and a yellow greek column.

Apply a very light smear of paste. People make the mistake that more is better - wrong. Thermal conductivity decreases dramatically with thickness applied. All your really doing is substituting the grease for lapping the metals.

Get off my lawn!
|
Good afternoon folks. We are back at the hotel. Just after lunch we had one small rain shower. Just enough to mess up the car.
We stopped for a group photo.

Yes, but there won't be any extra thickness since we are bolting this thing down good. Any extra will squeeze out and so only what is needed to fill the voids between the metal surfaces will be in there.

You'd be surprised, Max. Use a thin layer.

Well, all this is dependent on me finding some.
![]() There is already a thin layer on there.

You can find it at Fry's, probably Radio Shack. I have a tube lying around.
