I don't like to disagree with Roland, but the mainshaft in the sporto is the same as a 4-speed 901, and won't work in a 5-speed. It is missing the splined portion for first gear - the shaft is shorter by that much.
If you look at the diagrams in the factory manual, you will see that the castle nut is right up against the bearing on the forward side of the intermediate plate in the sporto, whereas the five speed has 1st gear there.
