Fixer are you taking dry film thickness measurements? FYI, OEM automakers do not send out product with greater than 12 mils (~300 microns). Once you exceed that thickness, bad things begin to happen (most importantly micro-fissuring under body flexion).
MrMerlin: Alodine is a Henkel trademark for pre-treatment products. Most create a conversion coating, so there is no need for the zinc-chromate (it won't do anything as the Al free ions are buffered).
Fixer is correct in that if the e-coat has not been comprimised, don't touch it. "Breaking paint" (i.e. going down to bare metal on a repair) is verbotten in the auto industry.
