I take mine off, but I only go to the track once every blue moon.

I don't think there is anything wrong with leaving numbers on your car, especially if it minimizes paint damage due to on/off operation and time spent.

Now what is stupid is a normal car that's never seen a track with big single digit numbers on them. I see that sometimes (Mini Coopers for example).
