You can get the best of both worlds and install a 964 deck lid with retractable spoiler. Like Jack points out, you can just swap the entire lid - your old spoiler / lid can be put back without anyone noticing it has ever been off. You can find instructions on this board.
Note that you should always run a front spoiler if you have a rear.
