The proper way to put your clean chassis on the road is to go through the local DMV and get a new VIN assigned to that car so there is no potential fraud. Was every single VIN number removed from the car? Do you have any record of the original VIN at all? And finally, why were the VIN's removed? If all you really want is to get the chassis on the road so you can enjoy the car, you do not need a 70-72 914-6 VIN for that.

Taking the VIN off of one car (for example a valuable, original 914-6 VIN) and adding it to less valuable chassis, (for example a much more common 914 chassis) to make what on its face would then be a much more collectible, rare chassis is fraud, pure and simple. The only reason I can see one would do that is for (potential) financial gain and the deceit of a possible future buyer/owner.

Cars that have had this done, and it has been done, deserve to be confiscated and crushed.
