He has spent most of the last year hospitalized. I think it was a stroke that first sent him there. He has struggled with mobility, speech and in particular breathing issues ever since.
He was released several times only to end up back in the ICU a few days or a week later. He was a fighter all the way to the end. Stephanie kept a number of us updated via Facebook and spoke frequently about the sparkle of life in his eyes and that she knew he was feeling better because he would demand sushi over hospital food.
It was hard to watch but I feel blessed to have been let in to so intimately be party to such a wonderful man's final days. He truly was an icon and my opening post downplays the huge impact he had on me and so many other lovers of the marque.
