Hi Bill - I have the 305 and don't think it has a barometer. It uses GPS to calculate the elevation. Have you turned elevation correction on in the Garmin connect software? I believe it uses map elevation data to correct / smooth out your watch GPS information. My elevation information is quite good. I.e. if I run at the beach, it stays within 5 feet flat. If I climb a mountain several times on different workouts, it always is within 3 feet on the summit.

My tracking / logging of exercise really helps keeping me motivated / going.
