Something is wrong with your watch. It should not be that bad. Here more info on the 305 by the DC Rainmaker guy who is pretty much the GPS watch review guru on the net:

Back to tracking software. The above article is fairly old but it also mentions Sport Tracks for tracking activities with the DC Rainmaker guy appears to use. Looks pretty solid.
