It is a GREAT area to live in if you have a job there. CA has the big cities (LA, SF and maybe Sac). The rest is the boonies and quite nice. Not that different from NC. I don't think this would be a crazy move. I'd live in Paso Robles in a heart beat. The pig hunting up there is great. Wineries, coast, fairly close to Laguna Seca and the Sierra Nevada.

IMHO you have to be nuts not to move to a state for its gun laws. I am not happy with CA gun laws, but they don't keep me from living here. Same for taxes and politics. It still is a great state to live in and make a great living if you can find a job that pays well.
