The standard battery has the posts on the top. The Optimas I have bought in the past had both top and side posts.

I think I may have had to mount my Optima battery turned around backwards to put the posts in something closer to the right locations, but I may be misremembering that. I just put the ground post closer to the front of the car and the hot post closer to the back of the car, whichever way that puts the battery.
