It also means you did not get a turkey, otherwise you could have just had a look when dressing it out.
How are they doing right now? Are they responding to calling and coming in? I found the early season to be tough to hunt. I don't mind eating jakes, so I often go towards the end of the season, when they are desperate because the big toms have their harem together and don't give up any hens.
I used to have access in a semi-residential rural spot. Turkeys galore. People were feeding them, judging from stomach contents. It didn't last - too much noise from the shotgun. I wasn't a bow hunter back then. I am invited back with the bow, but now I live too far.
