There are 2 different thermostats for these cars. i dont remember what the temperatures are or what the part numbers. If im not mistaken the activation temp is etched on the thermostat but its been a while since I have swapped one. As for shims, there was none on my 88 924S (944 motor). As long as it fits snugly into the socket you are good (I would say, but people will argue with that im sure). If you are going to change this make sure to get yourself a good set of snap ring pliers you will not be able to get the ring out with out them.
