Clunking may be the clutch, if there is slight "bucking". My car did this for 4 years. 2 years ago a shop said the clunking I heard and felt was the clutch on its way out. A little over a year later my rubber centred clutch finally gave way. 205K miles later ( bought with broken odometer)
