Question 944 Transmission Mounts?

About every other shift, depending on how smoothly I release the clutch or let off the gas pedal or press the pedal I hear a clunk coming from the back. I asked a friend about it and he said something about the transmission mounts. I'm new to a lot of things with this car, but he said if the mounts are warn it could be hitting the body of the car. Is this a common issue and am I using the right terminology? Any suggestions on what to do about the clunk in the trunk?

Thanks!
-Drew

Some members have had success by filling the transaxle mount with poly:

Basic DIY info:
Homemade Motor Mounts

I would check your CV bolts for tightness first.
Depending on the car mileage you may also try to swap the Left axle (mark inside/outside) to the Right side (mark inside/outside). This moves the bearings to another path on the CV.

If the clunk persists----it may be a wheel bearing.

Clunking may be the clutch, if there is slight "bucking". My car did this for 4 years. 2 years ago a shop said the clunking I heard and felt was the clutch on its way out. A little over a year later my rubber centred clutch finally gave way. 205K miles later ( bought with broken odometer)

Hi Drew, It helps to have the year of your 944 down in the signature block. A good DIY MOD for filling the trans mount with urethane to firm it up is at the link below.

Any DIY for the transmission mount? - Rennlist Discussion Forums

+1 on the urethane mounts. I used window weld windshield adhesive and they have been just fine.
