What I did was put a new solenoid on the starter. When I put on, I did not attach the solenoid to the arm in the starter. So when i connected the battery, the solenoid/ Starter made a buzzing noise. I guess by not hooking up that arm, it was connecting the switch in the solenoid making that noise. That is why the key, though in the off position was still allowing power through.
Well, I disconnected the starter and took off. I pulled the solenoid and reconnected with the arm attached. I reinstalled and now I get a clicking noise when I turn the key. The buzzing noise above does not occur. The guy I bought the solenoid off of said it would most likely not hurt the solenoid, the starter maybe a possibility. He said to check the starter, run a lead from the large post to the slide on connection (after disconnecting the slide on connector) and use that to see if the starter then turns over. If it does, there is a problem somewhere other than the starter. I still may have a problem with the ground coming off the tranny, I have not been able to securely fasten it to the body yet. The old post I had to cut out. The bolt was rusted to it and when I turned, the whole bolt spun. Any suggestions, I would appreciate.
Thanks.
