Power up and roll out in blue.
Dashed blue indicates flying, attempting to climb. Rate of climb was insufficient to clear trees, and pilot elected to abort. Red dashed line indicates throttle back, flaring to land. Unfortunately, that field has rising terrain, and we pancaked hard. So hard that the left strut is now protruding through the top of the wing. This initial impact caused the spinal compression. Airplane rolled to the tree line where it impacted a tree - causing secondary injuries.
You can see in that earlier picture where the tree impacted the spinner, the right front cylinder, and on back to the wing root. Intrusion into the cockpit at this point is what trapped and twisted my right ankle.
Again, the investigation is underway and I am not inclined to tell everything I know until it is complete. The blue and red lines on the image above are
approximated, to the best of my memory.
