Early radios had two parts. The head unit in the front, and buried in the dash, the amplifier (?) unit that it plugs into. If you want both parts out, you'll need to take off at least one of the panels on the side. If you want to repair the original radio, I would take them both out. There's also the amplifier under the carpeted cover next to the passenger door. Be careful not to reset the Oxygen sensor counter (I pushed the button, not knowing what it was).
