I'd always carry a spare relay or two, as well as some fuses. Electrical tape, wire, and a volt/ohm meter are also nice. I assume you have the factory tool kit with an extra fan belt as that's critical if it breaks.
Over the last thirty some years of Porsche ownership, I've learned that they do wear out with time, but don't break down very often if properly maintained.
I think you'll find plenty of enthusiasts through PCA. Just start going to their events and you'll join the local network.
