The grove on the CV joint, just indicate the right direction to slide it on the shaft.
Both sides of the CV looks identical (except for the grove). I noticed that once the grove is facing towards the center of the shaft, it will slide easyer.

There were no groves in my CV joints. Both sides the same as far as I remember. Grove in the axel, clip sets and will turn in that and sets against the CV, joint but not in a grove in the CV joint. Did I miss something or are they possibly made different by year or actual CV manufacturer?
