Thanks for the input.

i hope my drawing skills are better (not sure).

the Red line will represent the grove, located on the inner "ring" of the CV joint.
ignore the proportion of the drawing. whats important is to understand the location of the grove on the inner part of the joint, and the fact it is fecing the wheel.

let me know if it helped.
When I did my 01 S the clip goes on the axel , not in a grove in the CV joint. Did I miss something?

Hi turboflyer.
You are correct. The clip slides on the axel grove.
The grove on the CV joint, just indicate the right direction to slide it on the shaft.
Both sides of the CV looks identical (except for the grove). I noticed that once the grove is facing towards the center of the shaft, it will slide easyer.

Please do tell where you purchased new drive shafts for 128 each. You don't mean the entire axel assembly Right. Just the bare axel? If you did I think that was the find of the year.
I think I paid about 80 each just for the CV inners. Outers not available. Complete from porsche 850 each.

not to speak in turd's name, but i assume he used an aftermarket part.

you can find it even cheaper on some parts websites.

There were no groves in my CV joints. Both sides the same as far as I remember. Grove in the axel, clip sets and will turn in that and sets against the CV, joint but not in a grove in the CV joint. Did I miss something or are they possibly made different by year or actual CV manufacturer?
