I bought the exact same car for my wife almost a year ago. I would say go through and fix the sludge issue, because it is a wonderful car for long drives. Very comfortable, 27-31 mpg on highway, plenty of passing/merge acceleration (thanks turbo). Yes, the Japanese/Korean/Chinese cars will get you there, but with a decided lack of style and comfort. Their engines are good but the rest of the car is meh...

Of course this is just my opinion...

P.S. the sludge issue is not a difficult fix unless you already have damaged internal engine components (at that point it is game over). I went through mine when I replaced a faulty clutch, since I was "already in there" with the front subframe off to facilitate the clutch job. Use only top quality oil, the best oil is cheaper in the long run than any sludge repair.
