The late alternator should fit the early cars.... with a bit of file work.
I have an early ac delete bracket (they are all early) with my late alternator, and it fits fine.... a tad loose between the ears.

I replaced the bearings and voltage regular in my alternator. Unfortunately you can't do anything about the flip rings. They can't be removed... or I should say, I did not brutalize it and screw myself.

The bearings I pulled out are
6303 and 6201
