I got a 73 2.0, and upon inspection fund the battery tray rusted, both driver and passanger longs rusted. I found I can repair all the damage from about $350 + a paint job + the flares + suspension + um, well I think you get the idea. I live in the rust belt as so many of you call it, and if you havn't done rust repair here its time to learn. Go buy a $200 welder from some local store and practice.
One thing before you buy and car with rust, grab a hammer and pound on the rusty spots. If it holds up, the rust may just be surface, I was suprised to see how much rust I could just knock off with a wire wheel and have lots of solid metal left.
I'd guess anywhere from 1-2.5k depending on the rest of the car. What kind of shape the interior is in, tires and what not. Mines in pretty good shape and I got it for 3k in Michigan. It didn't have a functioning tranny at the time of purchase.
