You need to get either black "Gaffer's" tape or fabric "friction" type electrical tape.

I have worked on many original low miles cars and seen this behind the front air inlet grill.

It seems to me that Porsche uses this in certain applications where they want to 1)black out body color & 2)protect a painted surface from abrasion.

This type of tape "seal" is also found on the rear tail light/center reflector of 911's at the gap between lights and reflector.

Porsche also uses black gaff tape on the 993 to hold down the emergency engine lid release cable under LR tail light assembly.
