Well..

Not trying to be smart, but it's worth what somebody is willing to pay. Good condition air cooled 911's are finally bringing respectable prices - they were in the gutter for many years, so I don't have a problem with mint examples bringing good money.

I'm not sure why pricing seems to upset many people, but I have to admit some recent pricing bothers me as well!

I'm bothered by common variations of rusted out 356's (say a '61 "B") that bring money that I feel could never be recouped by a restoration - but that's for the buyer to deal with.

No offense intended toward the 356 crowd, and they certainly are charming little cars that were very well built, that ooze quality and charm. To me a 911 is a much more "thoroughbred" vehicle with a magnificent engine. The 356 (less an exotic 4 cam or similar) lacks the magnificent engine, and that is the heart & soul of any car.

$60k for a '75 911 mag case car would probably get me going a bit though (an '89, not so much).

When I can buy a low mile, minty last year Carrera or a new boxter for the same price, I would probably take the mint old 911. My only regret is that with "mint" cars I feel the urge to keep the miles low and I would would not properly use it.

I'm pretty happy with my high mile SC even though I'm sure I could sell it for a bit more than I paid for it a few years ago - what the heck could I buy in this price range that offers the same bang for the buck?? Winding out that flat 6 is quite the experience...
