Thanks for the details and the pics. I'm going with your first option. In other areas where the pinch welds are adjacent to my reinforcement piece I had planned to fit my piece so that I can weld at the pinch welds. For these areas with radius' I'll use tabs about 1 inch wide that extend down around the radius and butt against the pinch welds. I can shape these small 1 inch sections by hand.

There are also places where i will weld the edge of the pinch welds to make them more secure.
