Just a word of caution there are far more differences between the early and late model 964's than most realize. I have been building a 3.8RS clone for track use on a 90 tub and I have spent a lot of time and aggravation trying to make parts from the later years work on a 90. If you can source a later car you may appreciate it in the end depending on what you plan to do with it.
IIRC Vertex has spacers for this purpose. I have later H&R cup shocks and will be machining a spacer to work in the rear. As others said the spacing of the bolts is different as well as the overall length of the shock.
