can aftermarket 91-94 shocks fit 89-90

looking for a project car

i have some 91-94 parts laying around

for a street/track mod car

can i look at 89-90 cars

i have bilstien cup shocks and a set of JIC coilovers

what does it take to put into a 89-90?

as i am coming up short finding a 91-94 that is in need of work

Fronts are the same, the overall length on the early rears is different . There were adaptors available at one time to use the later shocks on early cars (it was essentially a very tall spacer)

Havent seen any adaptors available for years.

With coilovers, you can machine up a spacer much more easily since they come with top spring hats. I would use a rear monoball (Rennline version accommodates the early bolt pattern) which acts like ~1" spacer. Then machine a real spacer between the monoball plate and the body to make up the rest of the distance.

Cup shocks & JIC springs, track car only I assume?

Just a word of caution there are far more differences between the early and late model 964's than most realize. I have been building a 3.8RS clone for track use on a 90 tub and I have spent a lot of time and aggravation trying to make parts from the later years work on a 90. If you can source a later car you may appreciate it in the end depending on what you plan to do with it.

IIRC Vertex has spacers for this purpose. I have later H&R cup shocks and will be machining a spacer to work in the rear. As others said the spacing of the bolts is different as well as the overall length of the shock.

i just spent some time with steve from rennsport regarding something similar, coilovers for my early production '90.

since i'll be going with eve uprights, my front will be 993 struts, paired with 964 struts using his spacers.

try to give steve a shout and see if he can fabricate you something for your needs
