That sounds like a 911 guage to me. Also the sender unit and guage are not matched hence the strange readings. I found this out the other way around, I fitted a 911 motor in a 912 and the temp guage did the same. If you get stuck I have a spare 911 sender somewhere in the depths of the garage.
