Your subconscious mind is always calculating and resolving problems. When you go REM, your down in the subconscious mind. Remember that one said your subconscious mind does not speak English but in symbolic imagery. Those dream images or sequence is the language of the subconscious. Since a broad variety of people have the same dream sequence this would indicate a collective memory is at work which makes for a commonality or universality of all men no matter colour, creed or ethnicity.
Our collective memories have been built over many millennia of experiences which have slowly changed brain configuration. So one might say that mans' collective memory is built into our DNA. That might be called evolution, as the dolts who didn't get it when the hair stood up the back of their necks got eaten as didn't realize they were in the proximity of a hungry Saber Tooth Tiger. Lunch anyone?
