Though the basic Cayenne/Touareg platform was developed in concert, the engines, suspension and a lot of the rest of the cars, uh, trucks, weren't. Porsche wouldn't even let members of VW's board of directors drive the Cayenne during development, they knew their vehicle was that much better.
