OK, I test drove the Cayenne today and I'm completley impressed.I've heard all the talk on is it a Porsche or is it not. I'll even admit at first I wasn't sure of the looks. With that said I can't hardley wait to get one after the test drive. This is definatly a Porsche. My wife has a Land Rover and I have a Boxster S. What impressed me the most is the handling. You expirence no body roll, think 911 on steroids. I've grown tired of all the car bashing on the different models of Porsches. For me I had a permanent smile on my face with the 914( except everytime I had to replace a part to keep it running) and currently with my Boxster. I think all the models are special to the guy who owns it, from the 18 year old autocrosser with his 924 to the corporate president with his 911 Turbo.
OK, enough ranting. Go have some fun. |

You're absolutely right. I just spent four days driving a Cayenne S around Denmark on a magazine assignment, and after about two hours, I got accustomed to it and felt like I was driving a tall GT car of some sort. I sure don't want a truck, but if I did, this is the one I'd get. And I'd get an S. Anybody who pays $30,000 extra for the Turbo is simply signing on as a voluntary service tester for that engine, which is the only reason Porsche put it into the SUV--to get real-world mileage on it. It's intended for a near-future performance car. Anybody who wants more performance in a truck than the S offers is foolish.

Just saw the new VW and there's not alot of difference between it and the Porsche in overall looks. It's gotta suck to have bought a Cayenne and now to start seeing all the VW's rolling around. No disrespect to the VW either I owned one for many years and had to pry it out of my wifes hands when it gave up the ghost.

Though the basic Cayenne/Touareg platform was developed in concert, the engines, suspension and a lot of the rest of the cars, uh, trucks, weren't. Porsche wouldn't even let members of VW's board of directors drive the Cayenne during development, they knew their vehicle was that much better.
