Buy it and drive the hell out of it. The Boxster S is a great sports car that sells for next to nothing - cheap, fun to drive, reliable and somewhat practical.
I have been driving one for four years as a summer daily driver and some track - 4 oil changes and a wheel bearing. Don't worry about the IMS, not worth the expense versus risk on $10k car.
Because I don't have to worry about the Boxster and having real AC and power top, I rarely drive my SC targa.
