The 80-84 sport seats are bulky and unattractive and no more comfortable than standard seats, IMHO. The 74-79 sport seats are better, but the fabric webbing is weak and gets saggy, and the backrests are still too bulky. So, I would reupholster your original seats, if I were you. Most of the success or failure of a seat recovering project depends on correct repair of the inner parts. Buy new foam for the seat cushions from Porsche. I would stay away from Corbeaus, especially if you lack natural padding in your butt. The Corbeaus that I had were basically solid platforms with thin foam. Horrible on a long drive, I tossed them. If you must "upgrade" I would look for a set of 1980s era Recaros with the "halo" headrest and adjustable thigh support. With a little added padding in the lower back area, these were the best seats that I have had in a car. I am not sure for how many years Recaro made that style, and later versions with a solid headrest might be just as good, and a little bit safer. Second best set of seats that I have had are standard factory seats in my 83 SC, which I rebuilt myself. I have had two cars with the pre-74 factory sports seats. In comparison, while the early sport seats are great and a huge improvement over the standard seats from the era, the later seats with all steel framing are more comfortable in a long haul and more durable.

I'd really like something sporty in black vinyl or leather. Corbeau has a few that look really nice.
What do you have or recommend?

I had leather Recaro C electrics on my ferrari and they were surprisingly supportive for a non-racing type shell seat. they seem to be infinitely adjustable with a bladder system too. no matter on where you have it adjusted, it was amazingly supportive for spirited driving and comfy as well. the ergonomics guys really did a splendid job on the C. only negative i can think of is that they would be on the heavy side. they were mega $$$ in its day 40 years ago and somewhat of a bargain compared to the other vintage recaros you find today used since they are somewhat out of vogue.
I have the SRD's in my car right now. Great seat, no real complaints but im not crazy about the styling.
Recaro Pole position are nice too but they dont have a folding upper which can make access a pain even with the flip up seat mounts.
factory sports seats are great, i had those in my 86 930 which were both supportive and comfy. the only thing is they weight a ton and i hated the electric controls giving the car yuppie, boulevard cruiser persona which is what a heavily optioned 930 really is. I would try to find pre 85 sport seats without the electrics if i would stick with the factory.
i would stay away from corbeaus, flexi and thinly padded. in my experience you dont need alot of padding if shell is properly designed. sat in a pure alloy race seat before and was astonished how acceptable it was just sitting on cold metal.
im currently look for the obscure lollipop seats for my car to rid some more weight. there are 4 or 5 outfits making replicas. Im trying to figure out who makes the best ones.
best of luck! my 2 cents pf
