There's a little autobody repair shop by my house. I found them a couple years ago on Google maps near my house with a near perfect rating and used them to paint my IROC bumpers. They were fast and really good quality. I went back recently and asked about painting the whole car. They said they don't usually do whole cars but said they'd do it. The owner is a young guy who I just found out my next door neighbor has known for years. My neighbor said he started with a mobile repair business and worked up to the shop he has now. Just a good guy, very clean facility and apparently good employees. The best part is, he gets work done quick without cutting quality.

Yasin, I'd love for you to come over and help me figure out where all the parts go!

Let me know my friend, I'll be there! Sounds great and I love these little boutique-esq type body shops, they are the best. Your 930 will look great

So y'all don't think I'm slacking: the car has been ready to go to the paint shop for a few weeks now but they're not ready to take it. They're telling me November now.

I dropped mine off to the painter feb of 2021 , it's still there . "It'll be finished in a couple weeks" for the last 6 months.

I waited on a body shop for almost a year for a “slot”, and then dropped it off when they said they were ready to do it. Then waited six months with same shuck and jive Ken is hearing. I showed up one day with a flatbed and got it out of there- body shop was in complete shock. Said I was going to throw off his schedule now if you can believe it.
I ended up towing it almost 8 hours away to a shop in Maine and got it painted in 3 months. Amazing job too. Losing 2 weekends (the drop off and the pickup) is a good tradeoff for the right job every time.

And this is why we call it body shop jail! Glad you made the jail-break!!

Ken911 11-29-2023 02:34 PM

problem with mine is it's half done. body work done, parts of it primed and blocked.

I went by the paint shop and they've started on the fiberglass parts. I'm getting a little nervous about the Jade Green since there are several different colors found on the internet and there's no surefire way to know what the original cars looked like due to film reproduction capabilities back them. I'll ask the paint shop to mix some up and shoot a sample piece. I just gotta make sure I can live with it for another 20 years!

The painter did say that the black decals will subdue the jade color a little.

Good for you taking the car back. I had mine at a Westchester shop. They told me 3 months. Took almost two years. Still kick myself for not showing up like you did and more so for believing the lies and empty promises.

I’ve owned a bodyshop for just under 20yrs now. I dont normally post or read in the body/ paint section because .. well just because. Couple things to consider is, does this guy have a shop ( business ) or is he doing this at home? If it’s from home that cuts overhead costs considerably and allows him to give you a better deal so you might get the same quality job for12k that you’d get for 20k. How long has this guy done body & paint? Have you seen his previous work? Will he stand behind his work and warranty it for any length of time?
Here’s a few pointers; take whatever time frame he gives you and double or triple it and that will give you a more accurate time to expect it done in.
Ask him if you can take progress pics , that way 1. You document it for resale later and 2. your involved in seeing what’s underneath your paint.
Don’t bug the guy though, body guys are *******s well the older ones anyhow and he might just tell you to take your car as is if your too annoying. I’ve done that.. but at the least he’ll do a ****ty job if you ride his ass just so its done and you go away.
And, DO NOT PAY UPFRONT , nothing wrong with doing “draws” as he makes progress but if you pay a body guy everything he’ll have no motivation to work on it because he’s already been paid.
Good luck and can’t wait to see the finished car!

Went by the paint shop today and they've started! Just welding up holes (mirrors, antenna, rocker panels), filling in my sunroof delete, and fixing body work but they did spray a card. I think it looks lighter in pictures than in person.

Siiick color! I LOVE how cars look masked off and painted like your last shot. I think b/c there is nothing else to draw the eye away from the color itself.
I’m surprised to see there’s no downdraft booth, though. Did they really paint it right there? Here in New Yorkistan, they’re mandated.
