EBS did mine. They machine it for a smaller plug to save material (or so they say). I want to say it was about $500.

The actual cost for the twin-plug machine work is not very expensive in the big picture; it's the cost(s) of how you fire the second set of plugs that gets expensive...

Just having the heads drilled for an extra set of spark plugs does not, in and of itself, create a fully functioning twin-plug engine. Obviously the stock ignition system will only fire six spark plugs...so one needs to determine what ignition system will be utilized to fire all twelve spark plugs. It can get expensive - money being a relative term.

My latest project involving ignition:
JB Racing 12 point ignition distributor: $1,500 JB Racing spark plug wires (don't forget you need 12): $380 MSD 6AL CDI boxes: 2 @ $220 = $440 MSD Blaster SS coils: 2 @$43 = $86 All of this is in addition to the money spent on the machine work...

Just wondering if the Burnbros E-type cap/rotor conversion for the stock dizzy would be more cost-effective...

I just asked JB Racing today, how long they thought these parts would last, and Mike Bruns indicated they're on their third season (race car) without needing a replacement. He seemed to think it would be a long while in my daily driver before I needed replacement parts. According to Mike, it's usually the rotor that gets fried if a customer wires the dizzy wrong or if a wire comes loose from the cap and starts arcing.

Even with the Burn Brothers option, I still think the stock dizzy needs to be modified and re-curved. From what I recall, Henry Schmidt of Supertec Performance handles this and it's about $1,250 (working from memory as it was a couple of years ago), and I think you provide your dizzy as the core.

Sand_man,
what made you choose a distributor ignition vs. distributorless? |

I use Bill at Xtreme Cylinder heads. He is about as good as it gets in the Porsche world. He does my modular heads on my twin turbo cobra as well. His work in on another level, and his pricing is not that bad either. I run the Jb racing 12 plug distributor with two msd digital 6 ignitions, and two HVC coils. I would say I have about 3K in my ignition alone. My JB cap has a button on one of the spark plug terminals that keeps falling out. Not sure how long they will last on a car that has the plug wires taken off that often. Maybe I got a lemon cap.
