Unhappy Is the oil temp not getting to 180 degrees cause for concern ?

I heard that a 180 degree oil temperature is the magic number to burn out water vapor and prevent sludge from building up in the engine. The only problem is, in cooler weather it's hard to get the oil that hot especially on a short trip somewhere (less than an hour)

I'm running conventional oil, but would switching to synthetic oil eliminate the worry?

... (at the expense of possible leaking) ?

Your thermostat may be stuck open. Have you verified everything is in working order?

No, it just takes a long time for the oil temp to reach 180... usually more than 45 minutes if the ambient temp outside is 50ish degrees or less. Many of my trips are around 20-30 minutes and the oil temp is right around 130. Where is the oil thermostat located?

Thermostat is just in front of the right rear wheel, it's in the housing that has the metal oil lines running from it under the rocker and to the front. Get the car warm enough and feel the metal pipes forward of the thermostat or in your frnt wheel well, if thermostat is open they'll be warm or hot to the touch, it's not supposed to open until 180 deg or so.

JFairman is right though, a few boost runs and it'll warm up fast...

I'll bet it must be stuck open! I'll have to check it out! Thanks.

Yeah, I know running it hard will heat things up faster
