jetjox i would like to ask for your okay to post the dyno chart for the ls7 engine that i just installed in my 1978 930. dont wish to horn in but i would like an assessment by the high horsepower group regarding the torque and hp and rpm chart and what i might expect compared to the turbo power. you guys have much more expertise than i do as well as real life experiences on the track. the engine is naturally aspirated and the car weighs in at 2350 pounds. i will post the dyno chart if it is okay.... thanks maxwedge528

Sure all are welcome:) I'd like to share my info with those interested. I've been messing with efi 930's since 94. Most of my testing has been at the 1/4 mile.

jetjox , any chance you can post a vid or her idling? Would love to hear those cams

Sure, I'll get some video of it and get it posted. Meanwhile if you'd like to hear a sweet sound check this out. This is what a 935 cam grind sounds like, not much better. I ran consistent 9's with this one.

Yes, I've had that car a long time and will start working on it very soon. I'm making changes hopefully for the better and really look forward to getting it finished.

jrod, thanks for letting me be a part of this thread. the car as stated a few replies back is a 78 930 with a modified ls7 motor with KEP clutch components and stock four speed gearing with lsd transaxle. the car weighs slightly less than 2400 pounds and has 17 inch wheels. seems the ls7 power is more linear and keeps developing power up close to 7000 rpm. the dyno chart is engine dyno..thanks for any comments... maxwedge528http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1327144639.jpg

Your car is very light and should pull very hard. I'd like to see some chassis dyno numbers on it. There's not too much power lost with the porsche transaxle. What are your plans with the car, road course or just street fun?

lin7310948 01-22-2012 05:19 AM

it is just a street driven car. at least at this time. primarily interested in how you would access the car in the quarter mile especially with the stock gearing. do you go through the top end in your first, second, and third gears? etc...

Your car certainly will be very fast. Looking at the weight of your car (2400) and your hp, I would think it would trap in the 140's. However, ET is going to be very difficult with the factory 4 speed trans. They are better suited for the road course than 1/4 mile in my opinion. First gear is just too long and if you try to leave aggressively it will smoke the clutch. That long first gear is just too long and very hard on clutches. I don't mean to criticise anything but the KEP clutch will not hold up to that kind of abuse. There are other options out there that will take a beating and not cost an arm and a leg. I once ran a friends (Drag racing legend Tony Christian's) modified CIS 930 with the 4speed trans and without beating the clutch up, it ran 13.20. A few months later I ran the same car with a G50 installed and knocked a second (12.20) off the ET. That was also a easy launch and seemed to me much easier on the clutch. To really run a low ET in these cars the clutch must be slipped hard. The cars are capable of hitting 1.5 60 foot times when done properly.

jrod, these 4 speeds are a ***** to launch but I have cut a 1.77 60' with it. The clutch was screaming for mercy but it lived. KEP PP and kevlar disc

jetjox 01-23-2012 05:02 PM

Yea, it's just so hard on them, it might hold up for a few passes but not for too long  The sintered iron material holds up pretty well though. 1.77 is very good with that 4 speed :) What was your et and mph on that run?

JRod

drmatera 01-23-2012 06:55 PM

11.79 @ 119. I have since trapped 122 but havent been launching to aggressively as that ET was 12.25

jetjox 01-23-2012 07:32 PM

That's a good pass, are you running more boost to pick up the mph?

drmatera 01-24-2012 06:46 AM

I'm running a different turbo than the 119mph pass and right around the same boost 18-19psi

jetjox 01-24-2012 07:57 PM

Well, the change worked out for you then. What turbo were you using before? I see you use the MS2 system. I've never used or tuned with one, they seem to work well?

drmatera 01-24-2012 09:10 PM

yeah, i went from a K27 to my bullseye S262 originally. I ended up sending the S262 back for an upgrade and had a little T3/T4 60mm turbo laying around so we stuck it on the car. spool up was instant but back pressure was thru the roof. The 11.7 was with the little 60mm, i since put the S262 back on and have only been back to the track once since then. I need to get back out before the hot weather shows back up.

drmatera 01-24-2012 09:10 PM

oh, love the MS2. It's a great system

jetjox 01-25-2012 06:24 AM

Good info on those turbo's. Checking the back pressure is very helpful, i need to do more of that myself.
