Thank you Brian!
My plan is exactly that, almost added the turn down tips then decided to wait until after break in to see if I could leave them straight. I like the straight out look .....

Now have about 400 kms on the car. 200 highway followed by 200 at Mosport this past weekend running at 0.7 bar and short shifting at 5000 (most of the time)

The car feels like the differential ratio has been lowered .... it is simply faster than before even at the lower boost!

Then it snowed on Sunday afternoon ending the event early.

I'm happy to report that 2 more days at Mosport, 1 at Atlanta Motorsports Park, 2 at VIR and 3 at Calabogie and the car is running without issue!

Started at 0.7 bar boost thinking that was to be for break-in with the plan to go to 1 bar. Well as I am able to run to my chosen rev limit of 6500 in 4th on the back at Mosport and able to pull (just a tiny bit) a buddy in his 930 with a 3.6, Carrera manifold quoted as 600hp build with my little 3.4. I think he is well below 600 and my car is likely putting a reliable 400+ to the ground.

All is good and Brian I am very easily passing noise regulations of 92 at Calabogie.
People do ask why I have 3 mufflers and 12 coils ......

The new full up Elephant suspension set up is great too!

When these cars are set up they are a blast,
Dave

Nice car! Do you have any more pictures?

sundevil64 07-23-2013 08:34 AM

What muffler did you use? I also have a twin wg system from Mark and Brian. I have been limited so far to one of Brian's mufflers which I am fine with, just curious. It looks like you used a magnaflow or something along those lines.

Brian-What are you getting the wg mufflers now in days.

Thanks for the compliment on the car.
Yes plain old Magnaflow with muffler shop welds.
The car shot is last year at Tremblant with NERPCA before the RS 3.8 wing and with the old exhaust set up.

This is the reason I went to bigger intercooler, better flowing exhaust and turbo with the dual wastegates. Detonation during overboost which has now been completely eliminated.

Blow by was 70% so I knew ............

Holy crow, how fast is that? Do you have a 930 box or a 915?

Midlife930 07-29-2013 04:01 AM

I have closed up the third and fourth ratios in a 930 box.
27 driving 26 for third
30 driving 22 for fourth which gives you low 150's at 6500

Stock ratios are 28:25 & 32:20

I would like to raise the ratio for second to give me 3 relatively close gears. There are a few spots at the Glen where third is just a tad high and dropping to second is too much thrashing around.

Good morning,

My season ended at VIR with Chin at the end of October. Last night I was looking at some of my in car video and see that this year my lap times are in the order or 2 seconds quicker than last season. I am becoming more comfortable with the track but the interesting bit is the fact that I am running 0.7 bar this season against a full bar plus a bit last.

So I had a look at Oak tree to the braking zone on the back straight. Lowest speed at Oak tree varied between 69 to 67 kph, both this season and last and top speed both years was high 230's. If I was willing to brake later I expect 240 would be my top speed on that straight. The car weight is essentially unchanged & I added the 3.8 RSR wing this year which I would guess increased drag a little.

Same engine set up in terms of intake manifold and cams and compression.
Kokelin replaced with a custom Bell
Headers & turbo replaced as earlier in this string
0.7 bar for 2013
1.1 bar for 2012
Max oil temp that I notices for 2013 was 180 and last year 220F
And I am using less fuel.
Making the same useable power.

And no oil leaks - a successful investment!

I plan to add some lightness over the winter as the car is just under 3000 pounds today.

over boost cylinder damage

Dave,

Were you able to salvage the cylinder that suffered over boost as shown in the photo above from 26 July? Did you buy a new set of P&C? Replate? Were they Mahle 98MM cylinders? I have a similar situation and am seeking all options from those who have already been down this path....

Midlife930 11-19-2013 09:41 AM

They are 98mm Nickies from LN Engineering. When I saw the damage I ordered a fresh set of pistons and cylinders from LN and later sent the damaged cylinder to them for repair. LN repaired the cylinder and set me up a full set of rings so I have an engine set of P&C's as spare for the next rebuild.

I would ask Charles if he can look after you,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Just wondering what type of wheels and tires you are running? dia, widths, profile, brand etc. Any issues when driving on the street/highway with the car tracking or darting around with different road surfaces?

Thanks
Jim

Midlife930 11-19-2013 01:40 PM

Hi Jim,

CCW 17x9 6.25 BS and 17x11.5 7.25 BS with 255/40 and 315/35 BFG R1 ........ not very street legal.

The car feels great on the street apart from the stiffness of the set up with 24mm bars front and 33mm rear. The car is sitting on an Elephant package of bars shocks and bushings with a very careful alignment and corner balance. If I was going to run on the street more often I would go to NT-01's or maybe R1R's.

On the other hand my 89 Euro M5 darts around with 255's all around, but the suspension has not been setup, I don't even think the toe is correct. As I see it, with a proper set up the car will be solid.

How big intercooler did you had when this happend to you engine??:/

philip j 11-19-2013 02:59 PM

Dave, we should get together next year when you head down this way. (Ottawa) I have your twin. Philiphttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1384901974.jpg

Midlife930 11-19-2013 05:12 PM

It was a Kokelin, unshrouded as when I shrouded it my head temps went up too much. So I traded off head temps for slightly higher intake air temps. The big Kokelin seemed really good for short blasts but not for long straights when it soaked up. The larger and thinner Bell keeps the charge cool all the time and allows good flow to keep the heads cooler too!

And Philp I get to Calabogie a few times each season with Porsche and BMW clubs. The image above of me trying to put my helmet on is at Calabogie. Your car sounds more full blown than mine & would really like a taller second, but not quite enough to take it all apart.

Cheers,
Dave

Dave

Brian:

Nice. Great design and definitely different. Keep us posted how they perform ok.

Later...

DohertyCM 11-22-2013 07:16 PM

Post a picture of the intercooler....where did you get it and how much was it....was it a direct replacement?
