Aftermarket exhaust..
My Y pipe and exhaust are in need of attention. I have fought this partly do to keeping originality and partly do to cost..
So my thought process is what can the world of aftermarket exhaust offer in the way of sound? My ideal setup would be a exhaust that would look mostly stock from outside mainly the exhaust pipe. I want to be able to have heat in the cabin. This may come as a surprise to some of you but I would prefer it to be loud.. I guess if I had to describe a preferred engine note it would be 993 gt2.. I guess what I’m asking for here are pictures and preferably videos of your aftermarket exhaust. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I also understand that a the induction system or air box contribute greatly to the sound a exhaust system makes.
I would like to keep my stock air box if possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you want loud, get one of RarlyL8's Hooligan systems. Either a single or a dual outlet is available.

I don't know if anything is out there that replaces the stock look for exhaust headers. The doubt the demand is there for anyone to manufacture something like that.
To make the car louder you just need to replace the muffler assembly with something louder. As mentioned above Brian at RarlyL8 has four, or more, options for sound level and they will all bolt to your current turbo. RarlyL8 Muffler systems for Porsche 930

I have used multiple Rarly8 muffler systems along with the factory headers and J pipes from the 70s 930 Euro systems which is similar or the same as the US 930 system from 86 onward on 77- 79 us 930s. Sounds great, heat is fine, and good increase in power and fuel mileage. The RarlyL8 mufflers can be either single or dual with different sound spec's also.

What type of attention does it require? Is it leaking, or rusted, or .... ? What year is it? The early US exhausts ‘76 to ‘79 are less common. No model year 930 used a shiny tip (not a Porsche thing I guess). Finally, state inspections may require a cat to pass the emissions test.

Its the original euro exhaust for 1979. I’d like to keep the original exhaust if at all possible. Maybe I should wait to see if porsche reproduces the factory correct exhaust for 79 RoW.

They do, as does aftermarket company Dansk. Hopefully you can reuse a few things, like the rear crossover.

Stock is boring, go for a Rarly L8 hooligan muffler, Or outlaw pipe, if you really want to upset the neighbors!

Sound should be a secondary concern...your focus should be on how best to increase the performance and reliability of the car with simple bolt-on mods, at a reasonable price.
Fortunately, replacing the factory turbo/header/exhaust combo on these cars is the easiest, cheapest and least-invasive way of boosting power. The factory header/turbo, in particular are crappola. |

My opinion:
Highest quality aftermarket offering with heat are SSI exchangers. I think they stopped making them and maybe sold the product line to Dansk? Not sure I recall correctly on that point. One could argue that SSIs were better quality than Original Equipment...certainly true vs. the USA 1979 crap that my car came from the factory with Anyway, Brian B. (Mr. RarlyL8) sold an SSI setup for the 930. Combined with one of his mufflers this was my choice. There is a video with sound clips from my car on youtube...search "jwasbury" and you'll find it easily. Not sure if Brian can still pull such a system together for you, but he's the "man" for 930 exhaust upgrades

I can only speak to Rarelyl8 mufflers as I don’t have any of Brian’s headers. Fitment is terrific and customer service is awesome. I have a hooligan on my 930. Compared to the M&K on my SC it’s not too loud and I love it. My family knows when I’m about two blocks away.
