Midwest TurboPalooza

Update 4/8/2018:

Below is a compilation of a response from the condo rental co. Note that they included additional discount(s) and different rental properties for those who may be interested.

Condo rental co's response:
"Sorry for the delay in replying! We are excited about the opportunity to assist with the lodging for your event. I have set up a discount code for you. It is xxxx (removed...contact me for a discount code). You can use it during the online checkout at BellaParadiso.com.

The discount code is active now until the weekend of the event. It will apply the 15% discount to reservations made for arrivals between 9/12 & 9/16. If you have anyone interested in staying longer, we also have a "4th Night Free" special. That discount code is xxxx (removed...contact me for a discount code). The codes cannot be used together, but if someone would like to stay longer, the 4th night free is the better deal. If anyone wants to stay for a week, we give 2 nights free for a 7 day stay. (The weekly rate is already calculated with the discount included). Also, if anyone in your group would like to come in Friday September 7th and register for the Chamber of Commerce Antique Auto Festival, I will give them 4 nights free. That would be September 7th, checking out September 16th. 9 nights for the cost of 5! That would be around $650 for 9 nights in a King Room at Bella Paradiso.

I'm guessing everyone will drive their car to Eureka Springs, but, if they decide to bring it on a trailer, we also provide offsite trailer parking at the top of the hill behind Bella Paradiso.

Cancellation is available anytime until 30 days prior to arrival. Once a reservation is within 30 days of the arrival date, there is no refund if a reservation is cancelled. It can be rescheduled for a 10% charge, but I would not want to reschedule multiple rooms Although, if one person in your group simply could not make it, they could at least reschedule their reservation to a later date for a 10% fee

It's hard to say how busy that particular weekend will be. It will likely be slow, so I would say that booking in late July would be fine. (Probably will even be okay to book early August).

That weekend doesn't appear to have any major festival. The antique auto festival is the prior weekend. Although, the city has a band in Basin Park on the third Saturday each month, so you should be able to catch some bonus entertainment during your event.

Also, we have a house on Main Street that is a 3 bedroom with a large deck for entertaining. It is called The Urban Deck House (urbandeckhouse.com). I added the discount to this house as well.

I also added 4 more downtown properties to the discount:
Texaco Bungalow and Bungalette TexacoBungalow.com (Historic Loop)
The Moderne Apartment & the Hidden Garden Apartment. HarkenBuilding.com (Downtown Main Street)."

Additional information on the condos:
"We have 10 units available for those dates... 2 of the units (#1 & #4) have a sofa beds and can sleep 4, therefore, the total sleeping capacity is 24."

==============================

Update 3/24/2018:

T'Palooza Itinarary

Alright...I've decided to go with renting condos and the date for this T'Palooza runs from Sept 13th thru 16th.

Place to stay: Bella Paradiso Condominums (where I'm staying) or other hotels such as Best Western Eureka Inn (down the street from Bella Paradiso). I will contact the rental co. that runs Bella Paradiso and ask if they would provide discounts but I'll need to know how many of you will request a unit. Figure it will cost $130 per night (taxes and fees included). Be warned that booking may be non-refundable. Check out their website below and good private parking area:

Condominiums - Bella Paradiso Condominiums

Sept 13th (arrival):
Arrival to ES after 3pm. Let's have delivered pizza for dinner around 5-6pm.

Sept 14th (1st day drive):
(time subject to change)
8am - meet up for breakfast
10am - leave for Cliff House Inn restaurant (150 mi)
1pm - lunch at Cliff House (great hamburgers, nice scenic view from rear)
3pm - leave for Eureka Springs with detour to War Eagle Mills (150 mi)
5pm - arrive to Eureka Springs (take a break)
6pm - head for dinner at Farm to Table Fresh restaurant with a detour to mountaintop just above old downtown Eureka Springs (short 5 mi drive)

Sept 15th (2nd day drive):
8am - meet up for breakfast
10am - leave for Clarksville, AR - Fat Dawgz BBQ (160 mi)
1pm - lunch at Fat Dawgz BBQ (great BBQ per tripadvisor.com)
3pm - leave for Eureka Springs (100 mi or 150 mi depending on mood...more time driving or less?!?)
5-6pm - arrive to Eureka Springs (take a break)
6-7pm - grilling at rear patio (I'll provide hamburgers and side dishes...everyone BYOB)

Sept 16th (depart)

Below are the planned route:

Drive to Cliff House Inn restaurant

Drive to War Eagle to Eureka Springs

Drive to Clarksville, AR - Fat Dawgz BBQ

Drive to Eureka Springs (short trip shown)

So how does this T'Palooza trip sound? Does this fire you fellas up to go?!? If not then I don't know what makes you guys excited!!

========================

Let's have Eureka Springs, AR as our "headquarters" during the summer months. I don't recommend Branson, MO. Too much traffic and I don't care for hanging where tourist congregate and for shows. Perhaps we could rent a house and split the cost? My idea is to stay 3 nights and 2 days something like as follows:

1st night: Arrive in afternoon/evening for first night.

Day 1, 2nd night: Next day (1st day of driving) after breakfast go for drive from Eureka Springs to Jasper, AR to eat at Cliff House Inn for lunch then drive back on different route to Eureka Springs. Rest up then eat out at Farm to Table Fresh restaurant for dinner.

Day 2, 3rd night: Repeat for 2nd day of driving but different routes and places to eat. For final evening dinner lets grill some hamburgers and chill out.

Head home the next morning.

There are many routes to choose from but I'd think copies of paper map/route should be given to everyone in case we get separated.

For those who want to experience night life/shows one could always head to Branson, MO. It's about 45 min drive but be forewarned that there are deers.

What do you guys think?

Ringing to PaulK...you can't miss this! You are welcome to fly over to St.Louis to my place then we head south in my 930. Of course I'd let you do some driving.

turbo owner,
Do you want to take charge of this T'Palooza since you're closest to Eureka Springs?

Are you aware that Rennsport reunion is in Lugana Seca which is a long way from the midwest?? Perhaps you or someone can put together the West T'Palooza. Come to think of it...wouldn't it be cool to have the East/Midwest/West T'Palooza's going on?!?

I’ve never been there, I did suggest trying to meet up during the local P-club get together in early November. They draw around 300 cars every year, they have that in Eureka Springs.

Had to double check my grade school geography, but Arkansas still is not in the Midwest.

How about Chicago, or the Gilmore Museum in west Michigan? That’s the ‘Midwest’.

I incorrectly assumed you were familiar with Eureka Springs and its road down south. I've been there two times over the past 4 years (1st time with PCA Palooza during middle of Nov (too late in the year and too many cars running in groups) and 2nd time by ourselfs during Sept (much nicer and can go wherever we want without following anyones schedule, etc). I'd though someone really familiar this area can take a lead. If not then I'll do it if there's interest.

Okay...I should have titled this thread Midwest/Central T'Palooza then. Sorry to say...there are no twisty roads around Chicago and I don't want to hang around a major city.

Lowfat, Miguel, Gerry and others in midwest/central...where are you guys? I thought you'd jump at this T'Palooza.

====================================

Let's do a survey on gauging interest, timing, etc.

1. Does anyone have a preference on where to have a Midwest/Central T'Palooza? (Eureka Springs gets my vote).

2. Is 3 nights/2 days driving too much or just right?

3. Do you prefer to stay in hotel or rent a house?

4. Is 4 sessions of driving (1 each morning and 1 each afternoon) over 2 days just right or too much? I figure 2 to 4 hrs of driving each 'sessions'.

5. What month do you prefer to do this (June, July, Aug or Sept)?

I'll think of more questions later if there's enough interest.

Here are some photos of my previous trips to Eureka Springs.

Bridge to War Eagle Mills

War Eagle Mills (ate there for breakfast)

old downtown Eureka Springs...really steep hills, cool drive up and down and there's a place to eat (Crescent Hotel...good pizza restaurant within hotel) above old downtown

Since I was called out Louisville , Ky . Eureka Springs sounds interesting especially the curvy roads and grilling part. I'll head just about anywhere within a 4-5 hour drive from home base. I'm in for something in the Aug/Sep time frame and know of 1 other that would probably make the trip as well but in a modified SC if that's acceptable. If not he can roll with me. My car hasn't been driven much lately so a road trip is in order for sure. Why am I so excited, oh yeah Turbopalooza!!!

Lowfat,
Hey...long time no see!! Non-turbo 911's are acceptable especially the modified ones!

You answered questions 1 (Eureka Springs) & 5 (Aug/Sep). What about questions 2 thru 4?

Let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions.

I'll let my friend know about the non turbo inclusion and I'm sure he would be interested. 3 nights and two days of driving sounds good to me, The more driving the better. A house would be great if we can get one and if it's anything like Gatlinburg it's pretty much the same price anyway. A house would be better for post drive story telling and grilling. Long time no see for sure , hopefully I wont have a head covered in oil this time like the Taj Ma Garage meet up

Going there to drive cool roads...

Hey Lowfat,
I remember that! Your hair would dangle in a pool of oil and your girlfriend tried to help! It was cool hanging with you guys at P2O.

Miguel,
It's good to hear you are interested! Nice job providing answers!

I know it's early planning but it's best to reserve the rooms/vacation house several months in advance. I'm not sure how many will participate...I'll estimate 5 adults (not including girlfriends/wifes if any). So lets assume we need 5 rooms.

Here are two places that would provide the rooms and also has place for outside grilling. The first is where I've stayed several times. Parking is great. The rooms are kinda small but is manageable. The second place is one of the vacation homes I came across on airnb.com. I have not had a chance to really look for the best vacation homes but will continue to research and will post other places to stay.

Preliminary dates: Sept 13th (arrival) thru Sept 16th (departure)

Bella Paradiso (parking is at the rear of the building)

Either one of those has my vote. Yep nothing like roadside oil line repair but it is just part of the adventure. Good times plus the Taj Ma Garage was an awesome pre show stop at the beginning of a large Porsche gathering. I wish he wouldn't have had most of that 959 hid away in that wall/trailer display. I really wanted to see that thing since I've never actually seen one up close. The taillights looked cool!

I remember Taj Ma Garage and the 959. What a cool place to visit! I later found out that the 959 was totaled (front end) so the owner hid its front end using a wall/trailer display.

Well that makes sense. I just thought it was weird to not have that car on display with all the Porsche nuts in town. He gets a pass on that one. This thread has me pretty excited and motivates me to wipe the dust off the ole girl and get her back out into the daylight. I'm going to start tinkering this weekend , my mini truck project has now been sidelined! Hopefully we can get a few more people to crawl out from the rocks we've been hiding under to come play but if not it means more fun for us

Alright...I've decided to go with renting condos and the date for this T'Palooza runs from Sept 13th thru 16th.

I will contact the rental co. that runs Bella Paradiso and ask if they would provide discounts but I'll need to know how many of you will request a unit. Figure it will cost $130 per night (taxes and fees included). Be warned that booking may be non-refundable. Check out their website below and good private parking area:

150-160 miles a day is what it's all about. Put me down for a condo room. A Porsche adventure during the same month as the good Dr.'s birthday seems like a good tribute to the man and machine.

Hey Ben...let me know if your 911 friend also need a condo room but there is one unit that has a bed and sleeper in separate rooms. I just sent an email to the condo rental co. with questions about rental discounts. Pretty cool timing with Dr's birthday month!
