Why send it out? Why not let the guys who diagnosed it rebuild it? I don't see the logic in crating and shipping a motor unless the guys at the shop said that they didn't want to deal with it...

If it were me, I would follow Rarlyl8's advice (and others) and make sure it isn't terrible and drive it as is until you can do it yourself on your own time. It is a very slippery slope though, so be sure to have the budget, time and fortitude to start. Condolences on your loss Pat. Keep posting here, especially if you decide to do this yourself. When I pulled my motor a few years ago, I couldn't have done it without the help and support of my pelican brethren.

I would be happy with that but they are 5 months out to start, I understand it will take time to complete all of the work but the sooner we get started the better

Sorry about your father. Great recommendations by the forum members. When you ready to open up that engine, do it right, get involve, and do it once with the right technicians.

There are several good P car shops around the DC metro area. I know it is a haul, but is within reason from Philly either drive, flatbed, or pallet ship the engine. If you need/want DC area shop names, let me know and I can send some for you to follow up with.
