Just pulled the trigger.....
After missing out on a couple of modified 930s on BAT I was happy to stumble upon this ad https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/995749-1988-porsche-930-turbo-sale.html. Price was agreed upon and hopefully ships from Florida to Washington State soon. I am a little anxious about buying a car site unseen but had a nice PPI performed and the pictures look good.
If anyone knows this car, I'd love to hear about it as I guess Florida has a neat group of people interested in 930s. I am eventually going to get it over to Turbo Kraft for some additional work, but want to spend some time rolling around with her first. Here is what I know about the build: The sequence of events on this 34,000 mile car are as follows: A decision was made to remove the stock engine in 2005-2006 at about 26,000 miles. He had owned the car for 15 years by this time. He wanted the car to keep up with, or beat new Turbos. He enlisted the professional help of Joe Rodriguez (JROD) owner of FAST FORWARD, a premier Porsche speedshop based in Ft. Lauderdale. Joe consulted Joe Eassa, a local fabrication expert as he had a working relationship with the legendary Dave Jarvis Racing Co. Jarvis built the engine and Joe Eassa fabricated the headers, Turbo (precision) and intercooler (Griffin core). The engine was installed, tuned and tested by Fast Forward. As the warranty had expired after the first year, it's now had trouble-free operation for the last 12 years. The owner, a novice driver and a casual enthusiast, is very careful with his cars and boats. Being that Jarvis had retired and Fast Forward was sold 10 years ago, the record keeping on various projects has long been discarded. Knowing this, He had asked Joe Rodriguez to inspect and scope the engine recently. What Joe found was an engine that showed virtually no signs of wear (7,500 miles) and noticed some minor seepage that was quickly rectified. What we do know is that the engine is capable of 620 hp. What we also know is that its currently tuned at about 400 rwh. However this engine is made for boost. It starts and runs strong and smooth, very streetable in its current tune. Any minor issue that would arise over the years identified and corrected by local Porsche techs, including JROD. As a multiple Porsche owner myself I can tell you that the car has been well sorted and has been a joy to drive. Dealing with Jim has also been a positive experience. He is a no nonsense guy that expects results and doesn't mind spending his money to make things right. This car reflects that. If you need any further clarification on engine components or tune, I can put you in touch with JROD. As he is a full-time Senior Captain who flys 747's for a national airline, he is frequently out of the country but can be reached by email, text or a call from time to time. We know from his memory and recent scoping that it has 964 cams, stock Porsche pistons and rods, ARP rod bolts, ARP head studs, brand new Turbo seals, Electromotive dual plug head setup and EFI. 3.3 liter. Injectors, other ignition and fuel management questions can be addressed by Joe. |
Looks like you've got a very nice car, now post some pictures!
|
Ah, another Washingtonian joins the club. Keep us posted.
|
You bought a car unseen from someone with only 2 posts?
I hope everything goes A OK. I'm too skeptical these days... That is one good looking 930, though! Gorgeous. |

Another one comes to Washington.....and it's even the right color!
The add did not state anything about upgraded suspension! With all that HP, now you will need to get the old suspension up to the task, can't imagine all that HP going through old stock suspension parts, I bet it's a real handful! Too bad you didn't post a "looking for" thread on here first before buying, you and I probably could have come to terms on my black-on-black 930 right here in Washington State. Oh well seems a done deal now, best of luck with the whole transaction. Mark |

She’s a beaut |
Based on the description and P.C.A. For Sale add I don't think you purchased someones garage build toy. I think you purchased a, moneys no object, professional built toy.
I bet you got a really nice car. https://www.pca.org/classified-ad/327399 |

Congratulations on the purchase! :-)

She is magnificent, bravo for your very beautiful purchase! :)
|
Congratulations! Looks like a great car. Please post more pictures and videos of it when it arrives!
|
I will definitely post pictures when she gets here. It's great to be back in the community as my only true regret in life was selling my 73 911 with the 77 930 lump. Thanks for all the kind words!

Absolutely! The historic scenic byway around Lake Coeur d'Alene is also a tremendously good drive. My brother is a WSU grad too. Let me know when you are in the area. |
Congrats on the new purchase! Another cool 930 in the group.
Definitely post up some vids of that beast doing some serious pulls. |
To the OP you typed Joe "Eassa"..did you mean Joe Essa as in the well known Essa Tech?
Looks like a great car and well built! By the way the wheels are HRE 545R are used to retail for $1,500 each. Congrats. |

Good catch, I did mistype it. It is Joe Essa of Essa Tech. I really like the wheels, I am glad they are on there because that would be too rich for my blood :P Thanks, Dan Getz |
Welcome and congrats Dan. Dayum, that seems like a great example and an awesome build.
Looking forward to your contributions here as you get to know your new toy... as well as obligatory pics (no dikpix like Rawknees!), impressions, etc. Great story too on the 42 and 42... |
Congratulations on the "new" car! Will be interesting to hear your comparison of this car and your 1973 911 with the 1977 930 motor.

Congrats on the purchase. It looks nice. I just made a similar long distance purchase on a slant nose from a member here. But I did fly in and met with the mechanic who did the PPI in person. And he went over everything he found with me while the car was on the lift. Airfare price, $450....
At that price point I never get why you wouldn't spend the few hundred bucks to see it in person. Beautiful car (from the only picture I see) and I hope there are no surprises when you get it. Welcome to the club. |

I agree person to person is optimal. Not so much a money issue for me, more a I don't have time issue. It's a 30 year old car, so things will always need to be addressed but the seller has been a pleasure to work with and I have a good feeling that he has been dealing with me without the intent to deceive. I have yet to meet a true Porsche enthusiast who isn't a good person, and 30 year owners seem to have a bond with their cars. I suspect he was evaluating me as much as I was evaluating his car during this purchase process. |

Very nice. Love that inner cooler

Congrats, nice score.

Very nice! Good luck and keep her pointing straight!

Beautiful ride...now you just need to get it lower, as it's sitting even higher than US spec. with the bigger wheels.
Are the wheels 17's or 18's? I've got a killer suspension set-up, that didn't break the bank...not cheap, but not over the top either, perfect for the street. Let me know if you are interested in details, but I'm sure you already have an idea of what direction you intend to go. Wish my paint was as appealing as yours.....sighhhh. Mark |

Suspension in a nut shell...
1.) 23/31mm torsion bars. 2.) Front spindles raised 40mm by Elephant racing. 3.) Weld on bump steer kit by Elephant racing. 4.) Custom length front Von Strut inserts and custom length Von rear shocks with valving for my torsion bar sizes, thru Elephant racing. 5.) Rebel racing front control arm pivots. 6.) Rebel racing rear spring plate pivots & mounts. 7.) Tarett 22mm front and rear adjustable sways {front is thru body type}. 8.) Wevo weld on rear sway bar mounts. 9.) Front strut tower brace. 10.) Stainless steel braided brake lines. 11.) Hawk SPS front brake pads, Pagid "black" rear brake pads. 12.) Fikse 17 x 8.5 fronts, 18 x 11 rears. 13.) B.F. Goodrich comp 2's, 255/40 & 295/35 {summer compound, unfortunately no longer available}. 14.) Car sits at 2700 lbs with half tank of gas {yes, I've removed some unnecessary stuff}. 15.) Full corner balance and align. 16.) Car sits about an 1-1/2 below euro ride height...I know, I know kinda low...but what the hell... it's mine, and I like it low. I would have gone with fully adjustable upper spherical ball front strut mounts, but ran out of $$, sooo kinda stopped there. I think that sums it up, other than the fact that I do all my own wrenching, which keeps the cost down considerably. Mark |
"13.) B.F. Goodrich comp 2's, 255/40 & 295/35 {summer compound, unfortunately no longer available}."
There is a pneumatic solution, Pilot Sport Cup 2 Michelin in 255/40/17 and 295/30/18. Or install(settle) 18x8.5 in front and put the same model of tire Michelin in 245/35/18. ;) |
I decided to convert my car from torsion bars to coilovers and worked closely with Clint at Rebel Racing for the right set-up for my street driven car. I am also running the exact 17" HRE wheels as you too.
|
Nope...not going to go with 18's up front, they just look too big for the car.
There are several choices for tires with my set-up, no worries there, just really liked the BFG's. B.F.Goodrich has a new version of the same tire, just the tread pattern looks too pedestrian, and they are more of a 2-3 season tire than a summer only version. No matter, I'll be selling the car before it needs new tires anyway. Mark |

Finally here! Took it our for a quick drive, and what a blast. Unfortunately the windshield wipers are stuck "on" as well as the high beams, so I need to get it in to the mechanic for some steering column work. |
