Rod Bolt Clearance Problem...
So I'm sweating away in the garage, building the crankshaft. Half
the sweat is anxiety: this is the heart of the motor, right? I've got six rod bolts left from an experiment, and a new package of rod bolts. The six old ones go in OK, and when I start with the new package, they won't go... not with a screw driver handle tap, and not with some light hammering with the end cap safely resting on wood. I do manage to get them out with a few minutes of tapping, with the end cap resting in my hand. (later I try this rod out with old bolts, and it still fits nicely on the crankshaft, so I assume no damage done.) After my irritation subsides, I get my micrometer out and do some measuring. The rod bolts that fit measure in the range of 10.18 - 10.19 mm, while all 12 new rod bolts measure 10.21 to 10.23 and of course they don't fit with vigorous whacking and smacking. I don't suppose there's some magic fix for this except to send them back and expect to get better fitting bolts next time. Any suggestions out there? ![]()
