Bugs have a lip on the flange that the cv mounts to that seems to seal the two pieces together well, I have never seen a bug cv leak grease between the cv and flange without a gasket. 914s on the other had have just a flat mating surface between the cv and the flange, without a gasket these seem to fling grease.
