Always check the number of ply, more ply= stronger, but even then there are a lot of dodgy manufacturers out there. As Danglerb says, stick with harder rubber for vacuum, I have seen silicone sold for vacuum use that can be totally collapsed by just blocking one end and putting it in your mouth and sucking the other.
